Walking in the Spirit requires putting on Christ, but it also requires seeking things above, not things on the earth.

In order to walk in the Spirit we must be filled with the Spirit daily.
And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, Ephesians 5:18
When we are born again by the Holy Spirit, the Holy Spirit comes to reside in us. That is God himself makes each of us his temple wherein he can operate in this natural realm through human vessels.
Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s. 1 Corinthians 6:19,20
However, unless we are constantly fanning the flame of our first love, the Holy Spirit can become quenched or limited.
Yes, again and again they tempted God, And limited the Holy One of Israel. Psalm 78:41
To limit the Holy Spirit is to grieve or limit him. (Tavah in the Hebrew)
To ‘limit’ according to the Oxford dictionary, means to restrict, draw a mark or line in order to forbid something, to restrict or not allow.
And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Ephesians 4:30
To grieve (Lupeo in the Greek) means to cause sadness, or distress, to cause heaviness of heart.
Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophecies. Test all things; hold fast what is good. Abstain from every form of evil. 1 Thessalonians 5:19-22
Quench means to extinguish, to make go out like a candle is put out.
When we don’t allow the Holy Spirit to operate as he desires or we disregard scripture for our man made doctrines, we can grieve, limit, and even put out the power of Holy Spirit. (Both individually and corporately)
Holy Spirit operates by faith in his word. If we disregard scriptures the Holy Spirit will not operate in that area. He is limited by our unbelief, fear, ignorance, pride and our idolatry.
For example, if we do not believe that God heals today, we will not get a miraculous healing.
If we forbid to speak in tongues we will not be blessed with that gift.
If we forbid the Holy Spirit from taking control of our lives and churches we will have only religion, traditionalism, and social clubs instead of Holy Spirit power.
Many people are fearful of Holy Spirit taking over. They want to be in control. They like to be the boss of everything.
To have Holy Spirit power in our life and church we must let go and let God take over. What is ‘decent and in order’ to us may not be ‘decent and in order’ to God.
Some people are afraid of the supernatural. They attribute all supernaturalism to the devil. What an insult to God! This unbelief limits the Holy Spirit.
Now He (Jesus through the power of the Holy Spirit) could do no mighty work there, except that He laid His hands on a few sick people and healed them. And He marveled because of their unbelief. Mark 6:5,6
Paul tells Timothy to stir up the gifts that were in him and not to be afraid. (Not of people or devils)
Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:6-7
To stir up means to rekindle. (Greek word apazopureo)
Rekindle in the Merriam dictionary is “to revive, to resurrect, to renew”.
In other words, return to our first love! We should step out in faith and operate in the gifts and callings of God we each have been given!
Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. Revelation 2:4
Jesus told the woman at the well to ask for living water. When Holy Spirit lives in us (born again) we have his living water. He is the living water! We must draw from the well of living water every day!
One does not take a drink of water and expect not to be thirsty again. Drinking water is crucial for life. Drinking of the well of living waters requires constant drinking too. This is not a one time experience!
On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart (spirit) will flow rivers of living water.” John 7:37-38
Being filled with the Holy Spirit on a daily basis is essential for walking in the Spirit.
Notice in Acts chapter 2, when the 120 believers got together and sought God they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.
This was the initial outpouring of the Holy Spirit.
And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry you in the city of Jerusalem, until you be endued with power from on high. Luke 24:49
What is the promise of the Father? Check it out!
For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground; I will pour my Spirit upon your offspring, and my blessing on your descendants. Isaiah 44:3
And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my Spirit. Acts 2:15-21
Notice in Acts chapter 4: 31 That some of these same believers began to pray after the initial outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Again they were filled with the Holy Spirit.
and the place in which they were gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and continued to speak the word of God with boldness.
And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit. Acts 13:52
So as we can see, from these scriptures that being ‘filled with the Spirit’ is not a one time event.
The Holy Spirit resides in the born again believer but rivers of living water from the well of Holy Spirit must be drawn from daily.
Jesus said in Acts chapter 1 vrs 8
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
To become a witness for Christ we must be filled or rekindled with the Holy Spirit continually, on a daily basis.
While our born again experience may be a one time event in which we become citizens of the Kingdom of God, we must stir up the gift of the Holy Spirit which is in us every day.
“If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” Luke 11;13
Being filled with the Spirit daily is necessary in order to walk in the Spirit and be a witness for Christ.
So how do we get initially filled with the Holy Spirit?
John the Baptist tells us that he baptized with water for repentance.
John was preparing people for the Messiah who would Baptize with the Holy Spirit and fire.
I baptize you with water for repentance, but he who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. Matthew 3:11
Believers must be baptized with water unto repentance. That is when one is born of God they should get baptized in water.
Water baptism is both a confession of faith and symbolic of having one’s sins washed away.
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Matthew 28:19
But the baptizer of the Holy Spirit is Jesus Christ.
So Ananias departed and entered the house. And laying his hands on him he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus who appeared to you on the road by which you came has sent me so that you may regain your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit. Acts 9:17
But when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness about me. John 15:26
I have baptized you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit. Mark 1:8
Since Jesus is the baptizer of the Holy Spirit it stands to reason that we must ask him to baptize or emerse us with the Holy Spirit.
Once we are baptized or emersed in the Holy Spirit we must continue to fan the flame of the Holy Spirit.
That is we must draw from the well of living water daily.
Notice that the early believers did the following in order to be filled with the Spirit.
They waited on God (tarried) and they prayed.
Being filled with the Holy Spirit or drawing from the well of living water daily is the key to walking in the Spirit.
Then those born of God will be able to be a witness for Christ and speak his word with boldness.
We will be able to operate in the gifts the Holy Spirit has given to each of us.

In conclusion, walking in the Spirit requires putting on Christ, and seeking those things that are above. Walking in the Spirit also requires our seeking God on a daily basis and drawing from the well of water (Holy Spirit power) that dwells inside our vessels on a daily basis!
