Angels

My next premise concerning the Nephilim controversy is the nature of angels.

Angels, or heavenly beings, are not related to humans by blood, DNA, or nature. They are a distinct order of created beings. They have a spiritual body, not a physical body.

Angels are not the same kind of creation as humans. That means that although angels can manifest in the natural realm, they are not made of material substance.

The human body is composed of earthy elements: oxygen, carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, calcium, and phosphorus. Angels are not of the earth. They are made of a different substance.

Scripture speaks of a spiritual body and a heavenly body.

So also is the resurrection of the dead.The body is sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruption. It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness, it is raised in power. It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. Corinthians 15:42-44

Spiritual beings are spiritual in essence.They have an immortal body or form.

Neither are all bodies the same. Some bodies are of the earth and others are heavenly or spiritual bodies.

All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds. There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another.

There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory.

The first man is of the earth, earthy; the second man is the Lord from heaven.

As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly. And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly. 1 Corinthians 15:37-59

Angels are divine messengers.

The word comes from the Greek word angelos, which means “messenger”. Angels often appear looking like humans on earth, but they are spiritual beings.

Other heavenly spiritual beings consist of various categories. Not all heavenly beings are angels.

The Bible (not outside sources) tells us there are Cherubim, guardians of the divine presence of God’s throne. (seen atop the Ark of the Covenant) and Seraphim. Six-winged heavenly beings positioned around God’s throne. These heavenly beings continually praise and proclaiming the Lord’s holiness.

The seraphim accompany the wheels with eyes that Ezekiel saw, but Scripture does not specifically say that the wheels are heavenly beings.

There are several different opinions about the wheels, but again these are just theories.

Archangels are leaders of the heavenly host. Scripture names Michael (a warrior defending God’s people) and Gabriel (a divine messenger).

While God created both humans and angels, or heavenly beings, they have different functions and live in different dimensions. Angels are spiritual beings that operate from a spiritual dimension with a spiritual agenda.

Humans are created in the image or likeness of God. Humans were created to rule and reign with Christ, or to have dominion over the earth. Angels and heavenly beings are created for a different purpose. They are created to serve God exclusively.

Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation? Hebrews 1:14

Praise the Lord, you his angels, you mighty ones who do his bidding, who obey his word. Psalms 103:20

He makes his winds his messengers, flames of fire his servants. Psalms 104:4

For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways. Psalms 91:11

Jesus is the exact representation, or image, of God. He is God in the flesh. After his death and resurrection, Jesus received a glorified body.

One day, those who are born of God will receive a glorified body. We shall be like him as joint heirs ruling and reigning with Jesus Christ for all eternity.

But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself. Philippians 3:20,21

And if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together. Romans 8:17

Angels do not and will not have glorified bodies. They have spiritual bodies and live in the spiritual realm. Humans with glorified bodies will one day live on the new earth.

In keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells. 2 Peter 3:13

See, I will create new heavens and a new earth. The former things will not be remembered, nor will they come to mind. Isaiah 65:17

When people see angels or demons, their eyes are opened to the spiritual realm.

And Elisha prayed and said, “O YHWH, open, please, his eyes, that he may see.” And YHWH opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

2 Kings 6:17

They are not seeing a material being but a spiritual being. Angels can appear to take on human form and eat, or seem to eat, human food, but that does not mean their human form is material in essence.

And there came two angels to Sodom at even; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground; And he said, Behold now, my lords, turn in, I pray you, into your servant’s house, and tarry all night, and wash your feet, and ye shall rise up early, and go on your ways. And they said, Nay; but we will abide in the street all night. And he pressed upon them greatly; and they turned in unto him, and entered into his house; and he made them a feast, and did bake unleavened bread, and they did eat. Genesis 19:1-3

Regarding the theory that angels took wives and sired children that were giant in size, I would argue that this idea is in direct conflict with what Jesus taught.

Jesus said specifically that angels are not given to marriage. That means angels were not created to marry and procreate. Therefore, the logical conclusion is that angels do not have the biological anatomy to procreate.

For in the resurrection they (humans)neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in Heaven. Matthew 22:30

Fallen angels are spiritual beings too. They do not have a material body. They cannot have literal intercourse with humans. They can however, simulate the act in order to torment their victims.

If you look at cases on this subject, you will find that the incubus/succubus experience accompanies mental health issues that medication and counseling usually alleviate.

This is not to undermine the experience, which may be a spiritual oppression of the dark realm; however, it does reveal that the experience was not a literal physical reality.

The demonic realm lives in the second heavens. That is the realm into which they were cast. The dark realm is a spiritual reality. It is not a material realm. It is like another dimension that exists alongside our material reality.

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Ephesians 6:12

The only way a human can come into contact with or encounter a spiritual being is through either divine ability or by choosing to make contact through illegitimate means, such as opening doors in one’s life to things forbidden in scripture. (carnal sins, divination, necromancy, and sorcery.)

Another point I want to make is human agency, or will.

Satan’s kingdom runs on rebellion, chaos, and deception. The devil cannot do anything without human agency.

Satan needs a human vessel to do his work. He operates through temptation and deception.

Angels can’t just decide to go and raid a bunch of women and take wives for themselves. Satan must be given a place or an open door. He needs a human will or agency to operate. To suggest otherwise is to elevate Satan’s position above God. Satan is subject to God’s word. Satan needs legal access to operate.

Satan can test and sift, as in the case of Job and Peter, but he cannot force or take without humans giving him place or yielding to him.

Satan’s fall occurred in heaven. He and his angels fell from heaven. He was cast out of heaven.

Satan is a deceiver. A liar. A tempter.

Satan must tempt or deceive to do his dirty work. He cannot do anything he wants.

All the extra-biblical goobly gook about there being more than one fall. That angels came down and took human wives from whoever they chose because they were so beautiful is simply a subjective idea with no biblical support.

I read one guy’s book who propagates the angels’ hybrid narrative; he starts off his premise with, “But what if this occurred…” Then he went on to give his subjective interpretation.

We have to be careful with those kinds of conjectures. They are cunningly contrived to make you believe their storytelling.

“What if this happened” or “suppose that could have occurred,” is supposition not fact.

It is perfectly fine to have an opinion. Just be honest about it.

If angels could grab any wife they wanted, we might expect myriads of these scenarios to have occurred throughout history. No record of that exists, other than in ancient, non-canonical religious sources.

Scriptures tell us that humans were given dominion over the earth, not fallen angels.

Cain rebelled against God. He chose to go his own way. Seth and his descendants walked with God. They were under his divine protection.

Since angels have no physical material form, they cannot cohabit with humans. Jesus said angles are not given into marriage. That means that angles are created ‘after their kind”. (more on that later)

God forbids having any contact with the dark realm. Therefore, contact with spiritual realities must be initiated by human will, and not by force.
