The Principle of Sowing and Reaping

I did a prior blog on this topic but I am going to talk about it again from a natural persepctive, then tie it in according to the spiritual persepective.

If you want to read my prior blog on this topic, here is the link.

The priciple of sowing and reaping is a law of nature. Whatever kind of seed one plants is what crop one produces depending on the right conditions. It is the same in the kingdom of God. It is the same in the realm of darkness.

Sowing and reaping from a scientific perspectve occurs when a particular type of seed is sown into the ground. Remember that the seed must have come from the parent plant.

In order for the seed to grow properly it must be planted in good ground. Jesus talked about this in Matthew Chapter 13.

Good ground is ground that has fertile soil or soil that is loaded with life giving nutrients. Many have perverted this principle of sowing and reaping for their own means. Not only in Christianity but also in other world views.

If one sows seed into ground that is barren or full of rocks it is likely that whatever is sown into it will be weak and/or not fruitful. So it is important to sow into ground that is fertile.

Once the seed is planted in the ground there is the process of germination. This part of the growth of a plant must be considered. In order for germination to take place, the seed must become water saturated. That means that the seed must be watered properly in order to stimulate growth. Without water the seed will die.

Watering the seed produces root growth. A plant must have a sturdy root in order to produce a sprout. Once the sprout appears then the plant must have sunlight, oxygen, and the right temprature in order to grow.

As you can see, planting seed has certain processes for growth to occur. Unless, you water the seed and expose it to a healthy enviroment, it will not grow properly.

It is the same in the kingdom of God. Jesus said that the seed was God’s word that must be planted in good soil. (Matthew 13:8)

The heart must be pure for God’s seed to grow and produce a harvest.

The pure heart is the born again heart. A heart filled with the Kingdom of God.

Keep in mind that the Kingdom of God is vast. Many born again believers plant seed in certain kingdom principles but not in others. You reap what you sow. If you are not producing fruit in a certain area look to see how much you are sowing into that area.

For example, if you want to be healed how much time do you give reading, meditating, and praying about healing? How many people have you prayed for healing throughout your born again life?

Sow your seed in the morning, and at evening let your hands not be idle, for you do not know which will succeed, whether this or that, or whether both will do equally well. Ecclesiastes 11:6

The principle of sowing and reaping applies to every person and every thing on this earth.

This principle is also known as the law of cause and effect or the law of causality. It is a principle that states that every action has a corresponding consequence.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Causality_(physics)

The operation of this principle is seen throughout the whole Bible.

From a scientific persepective this principle states that every action has a reaction. Nothing occurs randomly. That is, nothing occurs by chance. For every event in life there is a chain reaction.

For example, in Newton’s Law of motion, a force (the cause) is needed to change an object’s state of motion. When a cause or force occurs the object will move. (consequence of the action)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newton%27s_laws_of_motion

This same concept is described in the Bible. It is called the principle of sowing and reaping. A cause creates a certain effect.

In scriptures God tells us all the outcomes for certain actions. He gives us clear direction on what to do and what not to do. He tells us the consequences of every action we take.

Interestingly enough, some people blame God for the outcome of their life when much of the time our life results are the effect of our choices or the choices of other people on our behalf.

God has given humanity the abilty to make choices in life. Volition is an important factor in the creation of our enviroment.

One would not blame the sun for burning a person if they stayed out too long in the sun without sunscreen. God made the sun. He put it in its place to do certain things. We don’t get mad because the sun acts like the sun! Why do we get mad when God acts like God?

God is a person but he is more than a person. He is the Creator, the Judge, the Savior. God operates in certain structural ways. God is not sinful like man. He cannot lie or do evil. He is righteous and holy.

God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it? Numbers 23:19

Forever, O Lord, your word is firmly fixed in the heavens. Psalms 119: 89

So shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it. Isaiah 55:11

God created the laws of nature and he created spiritual laws and principles. It is up to humans to get in line with God’s program, not the other way around!

For example, God has set certain natural laws in place to govern the universe, like the law of motion, the law of inertia, the law of linear momentum, etc. And he has set in place moral laws to govern humanity.

For example, God says specifically, that the soul that sins or disobeys God’s moral laws will die. (Both physically and spritually according to its predetermined time) Ezekiel 18:20

How or when one dies is dependent on the moral law that was broken. You can read for yourself each corresponding action to the moral law broken or adhered to in the Bible. (The list is quite extensive).

There is not one person that has not reaped the consequences of violating one or more of God’s moral laws. Due to this human inadequacy there is no one good enough to be admitted into God’s presence with good standing. All of us have blown it in one way or another.

Not being able to obey God’s moral laws perfectly has put humans in a pickle. We have all violated God’s law in some way.

The GOOD NEWS is that God came up with a plan.

That plan was a way to transfer the causal effect of our moral degeneracy onto another. The just for the injust.

For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit, 1 Peter 3:18-20

God himself took a body. God became a human being through the incarnate Jesus Christ of Nazareth.

Jesus Christ was the perfect sacrifice, or substitute because he was sinless. When Jesus Christ was beaten and crucified, he took the consequences of our breaking God’s moral law.

This is why God in a body is called Yeshua or Jesus. It means Savior. One who rescues others from the consequences of their immoral actions.

Now here’s the deal. Unless one chooses to receive that action for their immoral consequences, that action will still be carried out. Cause and effect are as sure concerning moral choices as they are for natural choices.

The soul that sins will physically and spiritually die. It may be today, tomorrow, or years from now, but it will happen. There is always a consequence for every action. The law of cause and effect is set in motion. What we sow in this life, we will reap, both now and eternally.

The principle of sowing and reaping applies to everything under the sun. It also applies to the promises of God. With every promise in the Bible there is a coresponding action.

Here are some helpful verses.

Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Galatians 6:8

Isaac planted crops in that land and the same year reaped a hundredfold, because the LORD blessed him. Genesis 26:12

But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop. Luke 8:15

Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. 2 Corinthians 9:6

Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. 2 Corinthians 9:10

In conclusion, sowing and reaping are both a natural principle and a spiritual principle. Whatever in life one sows, one will eventually reap. Jesus Christ came to give us God’s life abundantly. This life is in his Son, who is the word of God in the flesh.

If we sow God’s word into our pure born again heart we will reap what we sow.

If you do not have your sins washed away and you have reaped consequeces for your actions in this life, you will also reap consequeces for your actions eternally.

Call on Jesus Christ to save you today! Then you will be forgiven, given a brand new life and reap life eternal!

For whoever calls on the name of the Lord (Jesus Christ) shall be saved. Romans 10:13
